Füchse Berlin Undergo Personnel Shake-up: Krickau Takes Over Dual Role

The German handball champions, Füchse Berlin, have undergone a significant personnel change, with Danish coach Nicolej Krickau taking over as both coach and sports director.

The unexpected double dismissal of Stefan Kretzschmar and Jaron Siewert, who were previously the sporting director and coach of Füchse Berlin respectively, marked the beginning of this transformation. Bob Hanning, the managing director of Füchse Berlin, justified his decision as a "normal employer-employee process."

Prior to this, Hanning had planned to continue his collaboration with Siewert, who had an agreement for a contract extension. However, the signature was not exchanged, and the decision to part ways was made due to a "radical cut" and Kretzschmar's sudden announcement not to renew his contract.

Hanning felt bad about the situation with Siewert and apologized, stating that he became a victim of the system. He explained that he could not handle everything alone and decided to put Krickau in charge of both roles, a decision he justified as necessary at this level.

Krickau acknowledged that it is a challenging task to take on the job at Füchse Berlin, given their current sporting peak, but he has huge ambitions and believes he can further develop the team in the long run. He made his debut immediately against SC Magdeburg, bringing a fresh perspective to the team.

It is worth noting that Krickau is known for developing Danish national players, having previously coached SG Flensburg-Handewitt.

Both Kretzschmar and Siewert's contracts expired at the end of the season, and Hanning now regrets not parting ways with both of them in the summer if he had known. He did not discuss Kretzschmar's decision not to renew his contract with him.
