New Streamlined Travel Experience Launches with One Stop Security Program

The U.S. Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has introduced a new program aimed at enhancing travel efficiency and security. Known as One Stop Security (OSS), the pilot program is currently being tested at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport and Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport. These airports receive flights from London Heathrow Airport that meet TSA security standards.

The program, which began trials in July 2021, is designed to streamline the passenger journey while bolstering aviation security. According to Adam Stahl, the TSA's acting deputy administrator, the purpose of OSS is to provide a smoother travel experience without compromising on security.

Under OSS, travellers with connecting flights from London to the United States can bypass rechecking luggage and second security screening after landing. Instead, checked baggage is transferred straight to the final destination. Upon arrival in the U.S., passengers go directly to the sterile area after Customs and Border Protection (CBP) inspection.

One of the key benefits of the OSS program is that passengers will not have to undergo a second screening upon arrival in the U.S. This is made possible through additional screening at foreign airports, which removes the need for it to be repeated in the U.S. The TSA emphasizes that thorough threat screening and monitoring will be conducted at the final point of departure airport to ensure a commensurate level of security.

The collaboration between the TSA, CBP, and the United Kingdom marks a significant milestone for U.S. aviation, according to APEX Group CEO Dr Joe Leader. He characterizes the OSS program as a benchmark moment, highlighting the convergence of policy and technology in the initiative.

David Seymour, American Airlines' Chief Operating Officer, considers OSS as one of the most forward-thinking enhancements for international travel. The program is not the first offered by the TSA to make traveling easier; other programs include "Serve with Honour, Travel with Ease" for veterans and their families, and "Families on the Fly" for families at security checkpoints and discounted TSA PreCheck.

The TSA's acting deputy administrator, Stahl, also stated that the program should cut costs and advance "President Trump's vision for a new golden age of American travel". Dr Leader emphasizes that One-Stop Security lays the groundwork for all U.S. airports and airlines seeking smarter, connected processes.

The OSS program was officially launched on August 27, 2021, with the aim of easing foreign traveller access to the United States. Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem made the program a top priority, and its implementation was made possible through this collaboration.
