Heating populations sustainably through renewable power sources
In the heart of the renewable energy sector, Alex Willis, a design and technical manager at Good Energy (GE), is making waves with his innovative approach to simplifying the complex logistics of heat pump installations.
Three years ago, Willis joined GE when the company acquired the heat pump installers, Igloo. This marked a significant milestone for GE, as they ventured into designing and fitting green tech systems such as heat pumps and solar panels.
Willis, who took up his position around the same time, finds satisfaction in knowing that GE's customers are comfortable with their heat pump systems. However, he admits to a sense of low-key excitement that something big is coming.
Part of Willis's role involves helping to turn around negative perceptions of heat pumps in the industry. Despite a challenging landscape, marked by negative press and rogue installers giving the industry a bad name, heat pump installations enjoyed a record year in the UK in 2024.
As head of a team designing heat pump systems at GE, Willis enjoys dreaming up innovative ways to streamline the installation process on a large scale. His passion for simplifying complex systems is evident in his work.
Outside of work, Willis dons his DJ alter-ego and puts on under-the-radar parties, tearing up dancefloors in Ibiza. But it's his dedication to the renewable energy sector that truly sets him apart.
Good Energy, with Willis at the helm, continues to make strides in the renewables industry, having been a pioneer for more than 25 years. As the future of energy becomes increasingly green, Willis and his team are poised to lead the charge.
