The depression currently moving westward in the central South China Sea is set to bring heavy rain and strong winds to several parts of Thailand, particularly the North and Northeast regions, from Saturday to Monday.

According to the Thai Meteorological Department, the Northeast region, which includes Nakhon Phanom, Sakon Nakhon, Mukdahan, Bueng Kan, Nong Khai, Yasothon, Amnat Charoen, Ubon Ratchathani, Udon Thani, Nong Bua Lamphu, Kalasin, Khon Kaen, and Loei, will be affected by thunderclaps and strong winds between Saturday and Sunday.

On Saturday, the North region, which includes Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, and Phetchabun, as well as the East region, which includes Prachin Buri, Sa Kaeo, Rayong, Chanthaburi, and Trat, and the South region, which includes Chumphon, Ranong, Phangnga, and Phuket, are also expected to experience heavy rain and strong winds.

The North, Northeast, East, and South regions will continue to be affected on Sunday, with the North region expanding to include Nan, Phrae, Uttaradit, Phetchabun, Phitsanulok, Pichit, Sukhothai, Tak, Kamphaeng Phet, Chiang Mai, Lampang, Lamphun, and Mae Hong Son. The depression, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, is expected to reach the central coast of Vietnam by this evening and further weaken into a depression covering upper Laos. After reaching Vietnam, it will continue to weaken and is not expected to regain tropical storm strength.

Unfortunately, the impact of the depression has already been felt in northern Thailand, with seven people reported dead and five still missing due to Storm Kajiki. The Meteorological Department reported the current status of the depression on Saturday morning.

Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay indoors and avoid traveling during the heavy rain and strong wind periods. The Thai Meteorological Department will continue to provide updates on the weather situation and any potential threats.
