Heavy-duty truck operator under the influence careens into a crash in the Tiergarten tunnel, halting traffic flow

On Monday evening, a significant incident occurred in Berlin's Tiergarten Tunnel. A 57-year-old truck driver, under the influence of alcohol, lost control of his vehicle and crashed, causing extensive damage.

The incident took place around 20:00, with the driver attempting to exit the tunnel. The lorry veered off course, leaving it jammed sideways, blocking the tunnel and causing a traffic standstill that lasted for several hours.

Rescue personnel arrived at the scene to find the driver trapped in his cab. The driver was later taken to the hospital with minor injuries. No further details about his condition have been provided.

The crash caused a major disruption, with the tunnel exit towards Moabit remaining closed for several hours. The Invalidenstrasse entrance towards Kreuzberg, however, reopened at around 08:30 this morning.

Recovery and repair work continued in the tunnel throughout the night, and efforts to remove the trapped lorry are still ongoing. No information was given about the cause of the crash, other than the driver's intoxication.

Despite the incident, no further details about injuries or casualties have been made available. The authorities are urging drivers to exercise caution and to avoid the area until the recovery process is complete.

This unfortunate incident serves as a reminder of the dangers of driving under the influence and the importance of following traffic rules to ensure the safety of all road users.
