On August 27, 2025, a significant incident took place on the A2 Sürenheide rest area in the region of Gßtersloh. The traffic division of Autobahnpolizei Bielefeld stopped a tractor-trailer heavily loaded with 24,400 kg of construction steel.

The inspection, conducted by a police officer from the traffic service of the Bielefeld highway police, revealed significant technical defects. The main concern was a crack in the main frame of the trailer, which was located on the right side at the height of the first axle. If the main frame had broken, the cargo could have fallen onto the road, potentially causing a serious traffic accident.

The driver of the tractor-trailer, a 52-year-old individual from Rhineland-Palatinate with German citizenship, and the vehicle owner now face administrative offense reports. Each faces one point in the traffic central register (VZR) and fines of 200 and 300 euros respectively.

The trailer was secured for safety reasons, and the responsible registration office in Mainz was informed of the incident. The inspection and control of commercial goods traffic, especially regarding technical defects, is a major focus of police control.

For press inquiries, please contact various contacts at Polizeipräsidium Bielefeld or the provided contact details for the control center. Outside of office hours, inquiries can be made to the control center.

This incident serves as a reminder of the importance of regular vehicle inspections and the dangers posed by technical defects in commercial vehicles. It is crucial for all drivers to ensure the safety of their vehicles and the road users around them.
