In the world of video game development, few names carry as much weight as Hideo Kojima. Known for his groundbreaking work on the Death Stranding series, Kojima has once again set his sights on pushing the boundaries of realism with Death Stranding 2.

According to a report by Rolling Stone, Kojima's focus for Death Stranding 2 is to make the character models as lifelike as possible. This ambition is a natural progression from the first game, as Kojima has expressed a desire for the character models in Death Stranding 2 to appear even more lifelike than in the original.

To achieve this, Kojima and his team have based the character models on the likenesses of the lead actors, with a few exceptions for film directors. AI machine learning was integrated into the character model creation process, with an AI machine learning rig used to scan and create the models. The models were then made to move analogously, ensuring a high level of realism.

Despite his best efforts, Kojima is not 100% satisfied with the character models in Death Stranding 2. He has stated that he did his best to make the character models look natural in the first game, but felt they were not quite at the level he desired.

One of the standout examples of this attention to detail is the character Heartman, who is based on the likeness of Nicolas Winding Refn, the director of Drive. Refn's likeness is used in both Death Stranding games, with a performance by Darren Jacobs.

Kojima's dedication to realism extends beyond Death Stranding 2. He has written a concept for Death Stranding 3 and expressed a desire to make it more realistic than its predecessors. However, Kojima intends for someone else to make Death Stranding 3, with Kojima focusing on the game's story and direction.

At the New Global Sport Conference in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, Kojima spoke about the process of scanning his celebrity friends for roles in Death Stranding. This further demonstrates his commitment to realism and his willingness to go to great lengths to achieve it.

With Death Stranding 2 set to release, gamers can look forward to a gaming experience like no other, with remarkably improved character models compared to the original. Kojima's focus on realism is sure to make Death Stranding 2 a game that stands out in the crowded video game market.
