High-octane action thriller: "Vanquish" delivers excitement
In the heart of the COVID-19 pandemic, two film productions were making history, one in Los Angeles and the other in Mississippi. David E Ornston, producer of the film Vanquish, was stepping out for the first time during the pandemic when he embarked on the creation of this intriguing project. Simultaneously, George Gallo, the director of Vanquish, was also navigating the unprecedented times while making a movie in Mississippi.
Vanquish tells the story of Victoria, played by Ruby Rose, a protagonist given an opportunity to redeem herself. In this action-packed film, Victoria is forced by Freeman's character to perform five dangerous pick-ups in one night to save her kidnapped daughter. Morgan Freeman, in a compelling performance, plays a retired police commissioner who has been corrupt throughout his career.
The filmmaking process was a unique family-like experience, but safety measures such as wearing masks and maintaining 6 feet of distance were strictly enforced. The cast and crew, including Morgan Freeman and Ruby Rose, were easy to work with despite the challenges posed by the pandemic. Nate Adams, Producer and 2nd Unit Director of Vanquish, mentions that they had to prioritize safety on set.
The team faced more than just the pandemic, as they had to work through several hurricanes during the production process. Despite these challenges, they were able to create a great film. The screen actors guild rep visited the set in early September, and the filmmaking process for Vanquish took place in Mississippi.
George Gallo, known for his fondness for the Korean Gangster film genre, directed Vanquish. The story takes place over a compressed amount of time, similar to films like High Noon, Bad Day at Black Rock, The Taking of Pelham One Two Three, and Midnight Run. The film being made was the biggest currently shooting in the US at that time.
In conclusion, Vanquish is a testament to the resilience and creativity of the film industry during challenging times. The film, set to be a thrilling addition to the action genre, is a product of perseverance and dedication from its cast and crew.
