High school students from the region successfully acquire certifications via Enzweiler Building Institute, surpassing the 100 mark.
A significant milestone has been reached in the region's investment in workforce development, as more than 100 high school students from Northern Kentucky and Greater Cincinnati completed nationally recognised training programs in construction, safety, and environmental certification.
The achievements are a result of the partnership between local school districts, the Building Industry Association of Northern Kentucky (BIA NKY), and the Home Builders Institute (HBI), with the Enzweiler Building Institute (EBI) playing a crucial role. EBI offers career training in the building industry, providing students with the skills, certifications, and experience needed to enter the residential construction workforce.
The partnership seeks to address the construction labor shortage by training the next generation of skilled professionals. At the Covington training location, 60 students from several schools took part in the training. Among these, six students from Covington Catholic High School earned EPA 608 Type 1 certifications, while five students from various schools completed the training.
Ludlow High School had 23 students complete training, with 22 earning HBI PACT CORE certifications and 20 earning EPA 608 Type 1 certifications. Boone County Public Schools saw 40 students earn certifications, including First Aid/CPR, OSHA-10 Construction Safety, HBI Pre-Apprenticeship Certification Training CORE, and one student earning an EPA 608 Type 1 Certification.
Kenton County School District (Dixie Heights, Scott, Simon Kenton) had 27 students complete training, with 13 earning EPA 608 Type 1 certifications. Five schools were involved in the after-school program: Anderson High School (OH), Bishop Brossart, Campbell County High School, Holy Cross, and Lloyd High School.
Each student completed First Aid/CPR, OSHA-10, and HBI PACT CORE Training. The initiative aimed at preparing students for high-demand careers in the construction industry through hands-on instruction and industry-aligned certifications.
Diane McConnell, Director of Workforce Development, stated that "These certifications are more than credentials-they're opportunities." The program is part of a broader commitment to offering students practical pathways to employment, apprenticeships, and long-term success in the building industry. As the program continues to expand, leaders remain dedicated to this mission.
