High-speed automotive interfaces now protected by innovative Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) equipment for enhanced safety and performance.

The automotive industry is witnessing a rapid growth in electronic content, and to meet this demand, Littelfuse, a leading manufacturer of electronic components, has introduced a new product – the PESD4USBx series. This range of high-speed ESD protection devices is specifically engineered for automotive applications, particularly high-speed interfaces and in-vehicle networks associated with infotainment and vehicle communications.

The PESD4USBx series provides high-performance ESD protection for sensitive interfaces in electrically noisy vehicle environments. Each device in the series offers deep snapback combined with a low resistance of 0.4 Ohm, ensuring robust protection against Electrostatic Discharge (ESD).

The PESD4USBx series offers ESD protection up to 15 kV, meeting IEC61000-4-2 level 4 and ISO10605, the highest level of ESD protection currently available in this package size. This makes it an ideal choice for high-end A/V applications in automotive multimedia.

The series supports a wide range of interface standards, including USB 2.0, Superspeed USB at 10 Gbps, HDMI 2.0, HDBaseT, and various automotive A/V monitor displays and cameras. It also supports video links (SerDes): GMSL, FPD-Link, and LVDS. Each channel in the series has a very low line capacitance (as low as 0.25 pF) for ensuring signal integrity.

Moreover, the PESD4USBx series devices are designed to meet the needs of these high-end applications. They offer sub-0.05 pF line matching capacitance for improved signal integrity. Side-wettable flanks (SWF) are available as standard in Nexperia's DFN2510D packages, enhancing the use of automatic optical inspection (AOI).

Lukas Droemer, Nexperia product manager, stated, "The electronic content is growing rapidly throughout the vehicle." He added, "The PESD4USBx series combines strong TrEOS performance with automotive-grade quality."

It's worth noting that the devices exceed the requirements of AEC-Q101 by a factor of two, ensuring their reliability in the harsh automotive environment.

The PESD4USBx series comprises twelve high-performance 4-channel ESD protection devices that incorporate Nexperia's TrEOS technology. This technology ensures the devices can withstand high-speed data rates and maintain signal integrity, making them ideal for the demanding requirements of modern automotive applications.

In conclusion, the PESD4USBx series is a significant addition to the automotive electronics market, offering robust ESD protection, high-speed capabilities, and automotive-grade quality. Its wide range of support for various interface standards and video links makes it a versatile solution for automotive multimedia applications.
