High-speed Gigabit Internet by Vodafone: 1,400 households in Hanover to enjoy new data highways

Vodafone Germany, one of the leading communications conglomerates in the country, is making significant strides in enhancing the digital landscape of the Hannover region. The company, which provides a wide range of services including internet, mobile, fixed-line, and TV, is at the forefront of Germany's digital revolution.

At the helm of Vodafone GmbH is Hannes Ametsreiter, serving as the Chief Technology Officer in 2025. Under his leadership, Vodafone is driving infrastructure expansion, aiming to provide a stable and powerful network to its customers.

The Hannover region, known for its rapid growth in data traffic, is currently experiencing an annual growth rate of 12%. To cater to this growing demand, Vodafone has completed a modernization measure in the region. Approximately 1,400 households in Barsinghausen will benefit from this, gaining a more stable and powerful fixed network.

The modernization measure involves laying new fiber optic cables and building additional fiber optic nodes. This is part of Vodafone's strategy to increase the fiber optic share in its cable network. Segmentation, which involves replacing coaxial cable with fiber optic cable at amplifier points, and expanding the regional backbone, which connects additional fiber optic connections, are key components of this strategy.

Vodafone's cable internet has received top marks for its price-performance ratio and the highest average bandwidth that actually reaches the customer. In the CHIP Fixed Network Test 2024, Vodafone's cable internet was awarded the test winner among national providers for the second year in a row.

A stable broadband network is particularly important for live video streaming, cultural and sporting events, and news consumption. Vodafone Germany's machine network (Narrowband IoT) for industry and business is operational on more than 97% of German territory, further bolstering the company's digital infrastructure.

Vodafone Germany's 5G network reaches more than 90% of the population in Germany. The company is driving infrastructure expansion in the country and aims to reach two-thirds of all German households with gigabit speed in its nationwide cable-fiber optic network. In the coming years, Vodafone Germany, together with its partner OXG, will build up to seven million new FTTH fiber optic connections.

With over 30 million mobile, over 10 million broadband, and around 12 million TV customers, and an annual total turnover of approximately 13 billion euros with around 15,000 employees, Vodafone Germany is a significant player in the telecommunications industry. As the largest national subsidiary of the Vodafone Group, one of the largest telecommunications conglomerates in the world, Vodafone Germany is committed to continuing its infrastructure offensive to meet the growing demands of its customers.

These measures aim to reduce the number of internet users simultaneously in the same area in the network, thereby increasing average speed for each customer. This commitment to quality and customer satisfaction is evident in Vodafone's continuous efforts to improve network quality, as demonstrated by the over 3,500 construction measures carried out nationwide last year to improve network quality.
