High-spirited Corgis square off in Lithuania's international corgi competition, with over 100 teams participating.
In the heart of Lithuania's capital, Vilnius, the international Corgi Race returned for another year of four-legged fun and excitement. First held in 2024, the event has grown significantly, attracting 120 teams from various European countries this year.
Retired teacher Janina Stoniene attended the race with her three grandchildren, joining the enthusiastic crowd that gathered to witness the adorable spectacle. Among the attendees was Ignas Klimaika, a proud corgi lover from Vilnius, who participated in the Corgi Race 2025 with his corgi, Mango.
The race, filled with friendly competition, included a solo sprint, group racing, a "mightiest voice" contest, and the much-anticipated costume challenges. The children admired the creativity on display, as dogs dressed in eye-catching outfits like Batman, a princess, or an airplane paraded before them.
Among the most eye-catching costumes was that of Amigo, who won the costume contest. Dressed as a factory with tiny chimneys and "Fur Factory" lettering, Amigo was a sight to behold.
However, it was Mango who stole the show, winning the solo race. Ignas, Mango's owner, couldn't hide his joy. "Mango seems to be proud of his victory," he said, beaming with pride.
Despite training every day for the race this year, Ignas and Mango chose to take a more relaxed approach this time around, opting to enjoy the event rather than focus solely on winning. This decision paid off, as Mango's victory was all the more sweet for the lack of pressure.
Ignas and Mango participated in the Corgi Race for the second time, and with Mango's victory, they have set their sights on the future. Already planning to participate in the Corgi Race 2026, Ignas and Mango will undoubtedly be a force to be reckoned with.
The event will culminate on Sunday with the World Corgi Meetup, connecting dogs in Lithuania with their peers in the United States, Ireland, and Poland. It's a testament to the global love for these charming dogs and the camaraderie that the Corgi Race fosters.
Mango, the corgi from Lithuania, has proven himself to be a worthy champion. As the Corgi Race continues to grow, there's no doubt that Mango will continue to inspire other corgi owners to train, compete, and, above all, have fun.
