Highway police remove a drunk truck driver from the congested 3.5-mile stretch on Highway 2, causing traffic jam.
On a fateful Thursday evening in September, a 51-year-old truck driver found himself in hot water after a series of dangerous manoeuvres on the A2 near Lehrte. The incident, which took place in Hannover, came to light when a diligent police officer spotted the suspicious truck and reported it.
The officer, a 43-year-old member of the force, followed the truck at a safe distance and provided the location to responding units. The truck was subsequently stopped shortly afterwards at the Haemelerwald junction. Upon arrival, the officers found the truck driver visibly intoxicated.
A voluntary breath alcohol test was conducted on the driver, which showed a reading of 3.58%. This level is significantly above the legal limit of 0.5 per mille in Germany, leading to the immediate confiscation of the driver's license. The driver was then taken to a nearby rest area and later to the highway police station in Garbsen.
The truck driver now faces a criminal trial for driving under the influence. The incident could have potentially ended in disaster, but the quick actions of the police officer likely prevented a catastrophe.

It is important to remember that driving under the influence of alcohol is a serious offence with potentially life-threatening consequences. Always drive responsibly and ensure you are fit to be behind the wheel. The truck driver, currently barred from driving in Germany, serves as a stark reminder of the dangers and consequences of such actions.
