Historic Munich Eatery Shuts Down After 150 Years - "My Lifetime Achievement"
In a sad turn of events, the traditional inn Preysing Garden in Munich's Haidhausen community has filed for insolvency. The 67-year-old shareholder and managing director, Konstantinos Papadakis, deeply regrets this development, considering the inn not only his life's work but also an essential part of the community.
Preysing Garden, a well-loved establishment in Munich, is currently undergoing insolvency proceedings. The financial situation of the inn, which has been facing economic challenges in recent years, has deteriorated to such an extent that continuing operations is no longer possible.
Luco GmbH, the operator of Preysing Garden, has filed for insolvency, and the new owner has not yet been decided. The Munich Transport and Tariff Association (MVV) must revise the tender for a successor.
Dr. Matthias Hofmann, a specialist lawyer for insolvency and restructuring law, has been appointed as the provisional insolvency administrator for Preysing Garden. He expresses his sadness for the long-standing employees and regular guests of the inn.
Despite intensive examination, a restructuring of Preysing Garden is not feasible. The lease for the premises will expire in 2026, making it difficult to secure long-term planning for potential investors or successors.
Preysing Garden employs a total of 37 employees, and the closing of the inn continues to cause shockwaves in the Munich gastronomy scene. Konstantinos Papadakis attempted to find a successor solution for the company as early as the turn of the year 2024/2025, but these efforts ultimately failed.
Dr. Daniela Pohl, the source of the comments about Preysing Garden's insolvency, shares the sentiments of the community, stating that the closing of Preysing Garden is a significant loss for Munich's culinary landscape.
Hofmann is in contact with the lessor and is confident that Preysing Garden will return under new management in the future. However, for now, the business operations of Preysing Garden will have to be discontinued shortly. The closing of Preysing Garden is a difficult decision for Konstantinos Papadakis, who considers the inn not just a business but a cherished part of his life and the community.
