Hoeneß discusses national team matters:

German Football Legend Uli Hoeneß Backs Julian Nagelsmann as National Team Coach

In a statement made during the anniversary show "30 years of 'Doppelpass' on Sport1" in Munich, Uli Hoeneß, the honorary president of FC Bayern Munich, expressed his support for Julian Nagelsmann as the potential coach for the German national football team.

The support came following the German national team's disappointing 0-2 loss to Slovakia in the World Cup qualifiers held in Bratislava on Thursday night. Hoeneß, who made his statement in Munich, advised against constant changes in team composition, stressing the importance of being well-rehearsed in football.

Despite the loss, Hoeneß remained optimistic, stating that losing the first game in the World Cup qualifiers is preferable to losing the last one. He warned against discussing the World Cup or even the title, suggesting that everything needs to fall into place for Germany to achieve it, and at the moment, it's not.

Stefan Effenberg, a Sport1 expert, found the recent losing streak of the German national team (including the loss to Slovakia and the Nations League final tournament against Portugal and France) quite worrying.

Despite his concerns, Hoeneß still believes that Nagelsmann is the right choice to lead the German national football team. He emphasized the need to focus on essential things, suggesting that there should be more discussion about football in Germany and less about transfers.

Interestingly, Nagelsmann's contract as the former Bayern coach was extended until 2028, beyond the 2026 World Cup. This extension could potentially pave the way for Nagelsmann to take on the role of the national team coach after the defeat against Slovakia.

As the German national team continues its journey in the World Cup qualifiers, the support and guidance of figures like Hoeneß and Nagelsmann will undoubtedly play a crucial role in turning the team's fortunes around.
