Holy Cross Campus Welcomes Moo Deng's Presence
In an unexpected turn of events, globally famous baby hippo Moo Deng has been sighted on the Holy Cross campus. The hippo, known for her viral videos at a Thai zoo, has made a new home in Worcester, Massachusetts – a location with a climate similar to her natural habitat.
Mack Hughes '25, a student at Holy Cross and the editor-in-chief of The Eggplant, a satire organization that recently purchased a news section in an auction, was the first to break the news. Hughes wrote an article titled "The Adventures of Me, Myself, and Campus", detailing his encounter with Moo Deng.
However, Moo Deng's fame has not come without its challenges. In Thailand, fans threw water and vegetables at her, posing a threat to her safety. Despite precautions such as limiting visits and restricting them to weekends, Moo Deng's safety was still compromised, leading to a covert operation to relocate her permanently.
Moo Deng has been reported to be shuffling about on the Holy Cross campus, leaving small chomp marks on trees and making wet stomps through the halls. Despite this, she has also been seen eating lettuce, receiving belly rubs, and being adorable.
It is important for the Holy Cross community to respect Moo Deng and avoid spectating her during her adjustment period. The crispy buffalo chicken sandwich remains a favourite at Holy Cross Dining, but for now, the campus's most popular resident seems to be Moo Deng.
Rumours of a territorial dispute between Moo Deng and the campus skunk over turf rules have circulated, but these remain unconfirmed. As Moo Deng continues to make her mark on the Holy Cross campus, one thing is certain: the campus will never be the same again.
