Homage bestowed upon Pierre Lacotte at La Scala and the Opera
Next October, the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma will host a remarkable event, a tribute to the legendary choreographer Pierre Lacotte and French dance. The highlight of this tribute will be the return of Lacotte's rare creation, "Paquita," and the historic production of the three-act, six-scene ballet "Marco Spada" by Daniel François Esprit Auber.
The upcoming performances of "Paquita" will feature an ensemble of the orchestra, "étoiles," principal dancers, soloists, corps de ballet, and dance school students. The reworked ballet showcases the lively, vivacious, and virtuosic side of 19th-century choreography, with the corps de ballet wearing irresistible garnet bodices.
Nicoletta Manni, the first ballerina "étoile" of the theater, has shown poise, temper, and technical polish in the title role of "Paquita." Nicola Del Freo's technique is solid in the role of Lucien d'Hervilly, but his "port de bras" could still be refined. The "pas de trois" and the "Grand pas" are delivered vigorously, but some less-than-excellent synchronizations were noted in the ballet's initial segments.
The sets and costumes for the new production are designed by Luisa Spinatelli, who has tailored her designs to correspond perfectly with the figurines of the era of creation. Her design is harmonious and adopts the painted scene's pictorial tradition, as realized by Scala's craftsmen.
For the October performances of "Marco Spada," the Roman troupe will reconstruct the historic production originally choreographed by Pierre Lacotte in 1981. The original 1981 production in Rome featured the unforgettable presence of Rudolf Nureyev. Unfortunately, specific names of the dancers or guest performers representing the Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma for the October performances of "Marco Spada" are yet to be announced.
Guest artists for the Rome performances will include Igor' Cvirko, Principal dancer of the Bolshoi Theatre of Moscow, and Iana Salenko, Principal Guest at the Staatsballet Berlin. The search results do not provide specific names of the dancers or guest performers for "Paquita."
This tribute to Pierre Lacotte and French dance in Rome will be led by Eleonora Abbagnato, the director of the Corps de Ballet of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma. Jean-Guillaume Bart and Gil Isoart are the Professeurs du Ballet de l'Opéra de Paris for the choreographic revival of "Paquita" at La Scala.
The new production of "Paquita" is arriving at La Scala for the first time, marking a significant event in the world of ballet. Don't miss this unique opportunity to witness the brilliance of Pierre Lacotte's choreography and the exceptional performances of the Teatro dell'Opera di Roma and their guests.
