Honda reduces involvement in motorsports pursuits

In an exciting turn of events, Amalgam Collection, a renowned name in the world of hand-crafted large-scale models, has partnered with Honda Racing Corporation to produce premium scale models of the legendary Honda RA272 Formula One racing car.

The models, set to be unveiled during Monterey Car Week, will be available for purchase at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering and the Rolex Monterey Motorsports Reunion. Online sales will commence shortly after.

Amalgam Collection's team of craftspeople are known for their exceptional work, and these models are no exception. They feature an authentic painted livery, hand-built bodywork, and over 1600 precisely engineered parts. The models are available in two sizes: 1:18 and 1:8.

The 1:8 scale model, limited to just 30 examples, comes with a hefty price tag of US$28,995. On the other hand, the 1:18 scale model, limited to 300 examples, retails at US$1,735. Each model will be accompanied by a bespoke display case, certificate of authenticity, and a commemorative booklet signed by Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation.

To ensure accuracy, Amalgam Collection digitally scans cars "wherever they are in the world." For the Honda RA272 models, patterns were created using digital scans and period photographs, and genuine car paints and archive colour references were used to spray the bodywork. The patterns were then used to create silicon rubber moulds, with parts being cast from them.

The models also include a fully replicated Honda V12 engine. For "unique very high value cars," Amalgam Collection offers bigger 1:5 or 1:4 'one-off' model builds.

Koji Watanabe, President of Honda Racing Corporation, stated that the model is an invitation to own a piece of motorsport history. "These models are unrivalled examples of the world's most iconic and luxurious cars at scale," he added.
