"Horror-themed comedy revolves around a character named Dracula, who sports a set of sharp, twenty-year-old teeth"
In the world of theatre and film, there's always something new and exciting around the corner. And with the upcoming season, Quebec's Eric Robidoux is set to captivate audiences with his versatile performances in a series of intriguing projects.
First off, Robidoux is set to star in the immersive production of Dracula at Tohu. This black comedy offers an immersive experience with surprises such as breaking the fourth wall and characters going into the audience. In this production, Dracula is portrayed as "very queer," with a fluid sexual orientation, and vampirizing certain characters to give them more sensuality and charisma.
Robidoux, known for his physicality and charisma, finds himself in unexplored territory, playing the famous vampire. He delves into the role with gusto, portraying Dracula as someone who breaks free from puritanical and religious constraints, focusing on sensuality, freedom, and embracing what scares him. The production features magnificent costumes that require Robidoux to hold his body in a specific way, adding elegance.
In addition to Dracula, Robidoux is excited to explore another comedy, Parachute Libre, at the Rideau vert next spring. This project allows him to work with Hugo Belanger, twenty years after the director cast him in his first professional show, Le Baron de Münchausen.
Meanwhile, Mathieu Denis' film at TIFF tells the fall of a seemingly prosperous man, but chronically in debt. The production of Dracula, on the other hand, includes salacious, sexual allusions but avoids vulgarity.
The production of Dracula also relies on a game of transgression of gender norms, with men playing women and women playing men. Milène Leclerc interprets, among other roles, the sexist father of Lucy, and François-Simon Poirier incarnates alternately his less seductive sister, Mina, and the D Van Helsing.
Robidoux, who has reviewed various versions of Dracula throughout time, from Nosferatu in 1922 to Dracula by Francis Ford Coppola (1992), expresses a particular admiration for the 1931 version of Dracula.
Looking beyond the borders, the 2023 off-Broadway production "Dracula, eine Komödie des Grauens," features Jaron Löwenberg as Dracula and Katharina Schwarzmaier as Mina. In this production, Dracula is depicted as a charming narcissist in love with himself.
Robidoux, however, finds entertainment that is not carried by the ego of a director or an author enjoyable. He found playing The Molière Syndrome at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in 2022 a taste for comedy and the old theater.
In other news, several international operators have suspended their postal services with the United States, according to the UN. Private shipments of less than 100 US dollars remain exempt from duties.
As we eagerly await these exciting performances, it's clear that Eric Robidoux is set to dazzle audiences with his versatility and charisma. Whether it's immersive theatre, film, or comedy, his talent and passion are sure to shine through.
