Housing Fraudster Detained in Kamchatka
In the Elizovo district of Kamchatka Krai last October, a 45-year-old woman found herself in court for a fraudulent incident involving a rental apartment. The woman, whose name remains undisclosed, had responded to an online advertisement seeking a rental property.
The woman, who was not the rightful owner of the apartment, offered it as a rental option. She intentionally concealed the fact that the apartment had already been sold, and demanded a security deposit of 10,000 rubles from the potential tenant.
The potential tenant expressed interest in the housing option, and the woman sent photographs of the apartment to seal the deal. However, the apartment was not available for rent, and the woman had no right to dispose of it.
The prosecutor's office in Kamchatka Krai reported the incident, and an investigation ensued. The evidence gathered during the investigation was crucial in the court's decision. The swindler was found guilty by the court, and was sentenced to one year and six months of corrective labor.
The court's decision was specific to the woman involved in the fraudulent incident. The sentence was not a fine, but a form of punishment and restitution. 5% of the woman's wages will be withheld in favor of the state. The woman was sentenced to serve her punishment in the form of corrective labor.
This incident serves as a reminder to exercise caution when responding to online advertisements for rental properties. Always verify the legitimacy of the offer before making any financial commitments.
