Breaking News: Houthi Rebel Prime Minister Ahmed al Rahawi Killed in Sanaa Strike

In a significant development in the ongoing conflict in Yemen, Ahmed al Rahawi, the Houthi rebel prime minister, was killed in a strike on the Yemeni capital Sanaa on Thursday.

Ahmed al Rahawi, originally from the southern province of Abyan, had served as the prime minister of the Houthi-led government since August 2024. Prior to his appointment, he was a supporter of the former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh before allying with the Houthis when they took Sanaa in 2014.

The strike took place at a site where senior officials were reportedly present, and it is believed that other ministers were also killed in the attack. The Houthi-owned TV station was broadcasting a speech from the group's secretive leader Abdul Malik al Houthi at the time of the strike.

The strike was part of the ongoing US and Israeli campaign against the Houthis, in response to their attacks on Israel and ships in the Red Sea. It is worth noting that the Houthis are backed by Iran and have conducted repeated strikes on shipping in the Red Sea and Israel.

The Houthi president Mahdi al Mashat claimed that Israel should expect "dark days" ahead in response to the strike. The Israel Defence Forces (IDF) confirmed carrying out a significant strike against strategic targets of the Houthi regime in Yemen.

Rahawi, whose full name was Ahmed Ghaleb Nasser al-Rahawi al-Yafei, was a key figure in the Houthi regime. He had been a supporter of the former Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh before allying with the Houthis.

The Houthis have controlled much of northwestern Yemen since 2014, and this latest development is likely to have significant implications for the ongoing conflict in the region. The international community is closely monitoring the situation and calling for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.
