How to Reapply for an Irish Passport: Your Comprehensive Guide

Applying for a U.S. passport in Ireland has become a streamlined process, thanks to the U.S. Embassy's online appointment and payment system. Here's a step-by-step guide to help you navigate the process.

Firstly, it's important to note that no zooming in or additional editing is allowed on the passport photo. The image must feature the head and top of the shoulders, with an even shadow-lighting ratio, avoiding over- or underexposed areas.

To capture the perfect passport photo, you can take it at home. Using a tripod can help ensure proper focus. If you don't have access to special equipment, consider printing the photo at a copy centre. The required distance between the subject and the camera is approximately 1.5 meters.

Once you have your photo ready, you can proceed with your application. Applying online is not only convenient but also cheaper than applying in person or via post. The cost for a standard passport book is €95, while postal services cost €89.50.

If you need your passport urgently, an express service is available. For less than 5 days, the fee is €75, and for the same day, it's €150.

The U.S. Embassy also provides a fast emergency passport renewal service. For this, you'll need to book an appointment online and pay the necessary fee.

Lastly, once your application is submitted, you'll receive an application confirmation number. This number can be used to track the status of your passport. In about 10 days, you'll receive your new passport, ready for your next adventure.
