In a show of unity and determination, approximately 1,000 people gathered in Düsseldorf on Saturday, 15th February, for a Fridays for Future (FFF) rally. The demonstration, which began at Schadowplatz, was one of over 150 events across the country that took place the previous day, on Friday, 14th February.

The rally, which grew to nearly 1,000 participants, was followed by musical performances by the singer Milen and further speeches. The Tilly-Mottowagen, a well-known symbol of protests in Düsseldorf, also participated in the demonstration.

The FFF movement, which is spearheading the fight against climate change, demanded a phase-out of coal, oil, and gas, affordable climate-friendly alternatives for all, and fair financing by corporations and the super-rich. They also called for the establishment of a disaster fund to provide swift aid in cases of flooding, storms, or drought.

The FFF criticized the lack of serious climate protection plans in the election campaign and condemned announced setbacks. They emphasized that regardless of which government is formed, the climate crisis cannot be ignored.

In addition to the FFF event, another demonstration was registered by "Düsseldorf stellt sich quer" on the Oberbilker market under the heading "Remigration creates living space" on the same day at 12:00 PM in front of the DGB house. The AfD also announced an election campaign event at 11:00 AM on the same day.

Many young people were among the participants in the rally, expressing their frustration about climate protection not being a major issue in the federal election. Speakers at Schadowplatz echoed these sentiments, calling for more attention and action on climate change.

Greenpeace also started an action where the top candidates received 2 cent coins to emphasize that the super-rich must make an appropriate contribution with their climate-damaging lifestyle. The Tilly-Mottowagen will also participate in the demo on Saturday, as the fight for a sustainable future continues.
