Husband Testifies: Wife Pocketed RM2.8 million, Reveals in Court Testimony
In a shocking turn of events, the ongoing trial of a bribery case involving former Felcra non-executive chairman Bung and businesswoman Zizie Izette Abdul Samad is set to continue tomorrow.
According to reports, Zizie repaid the allegedly bribed amounts to Bung at the end of March 2023. The bribes, totaling RM2.8 million, were reportedly received as an inducement to obtain Felcra's approval for a RM150 million investment in Public Mutual unit trusts.
At the time, Bung was holding the position of Felcra's chairman. He claimed to have learned about Zizie receiving the funds when summoned by MACC in 2016. Bung agreed that Norhaili Mokhtar, an agent, secured Felcra's investment during his tenure as chairman.
Zizie faces three charges of abetting Bung in the commission of the alleged offences. Bung, on the other hand, faces two charges of receiving bribes totaling RM2.562,500.
During cross-examination, Bung maintained that he had no knowledge of the money. He also stated that he did not direct Zizie to return the money to Norhaili or Felcra. Interestingly, Bung never filed a report with the authorities regarding the transactions to clear his name.
The alleged bribes were received from Madhi Hamid through Zizie at the Taman Melawati Public Bank branch on June 12, 2015, and June 19, 2015. It is unclear if Zizie herself has returned the money to either party.
Norhaili had previously attempted, but failed, to secure an investment from Felcra during the tenure of Tajuddin Rahman. However, she was successful during Bung's time as chairman.
It is important to note that Bung and his wife were already being investigated by MACC at the time. The hearing for this case is scheduled to continue tomorrow, providing more insights into this intriguing case.
