Hyundai Confirmed to Launch Ioniq 9 in 2024, a Counterpart to Kia's EV9 Model
Hyundai is set to enter the competitive market of large electric SUVs with the unveiling of its latest model, the Ioniq 9. This new vehicle, revealed to be a production version of the Hyundai Seven Concept, is expected to debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show on 21 November.
The Ioniq 9 is poised to become a range-topping electric SUV, offering seven seats and a premium driving experience. The design of the Ioniq 9 is expected to retain the overall look of the Seven Concept, with a stretched shape that exudes elegance and power.
The entry-level model of the Ioniq 9 may come with a rear-wheel drive (RWD) setup, boasting 201bhp and a impressive range of 336 miles from a 99.8kWh battery. However, a performance model with a more powerful 378bhp engine and a range of 306 miles is also a possibility.
The Ioniq 9 is expected to challenge the likes of the Volvo EX90, positioning itself as a formidable competitor in the large electric SUV segment. Hyundai's decision to name the Ioniq 9 instead of Ioniq 7 reflects the company's strategy to position it as a more premium, larger flagship model above the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, following a numerical hierarchy that increases with size and luxury.
Interestingly, the Kia EV9 Concept is also expected to turn into a production model, potentially becoming the Ioniq 7. This means that the Ioniq 9 and the Kia EV9 will be electric SUV siblings, sharing similar powertrains and features.
