Hyundai presents vision for hydrogen energy at international energy conference
Hyundai Motor Group made history at the recent 16th Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM16) and APEC Energy Summit in Busan, South Korea, by deploying 32 units of its all-new NEXO FCEV as official vehicles for ministers attending the event. This marks the first time fuel cell electric vehicles have been used as state vehicles at an international ministerial event.
The NEXO FCEV, with a driving range of up to 700 kilometers on a five-minute charge and featuring a 150 kW electric motor, set new benchmarks for passenger FCEV performance. Hyundai's choice of the NEXO FCEV underscores its commitment to hydrogen as a cornerstone of the global clean energy transition.
Hyundai has been a trailblazer in deploying eco-friendly fleets at global gatherings, with previous appearances at the ASEAN Summit, FIFA World Cup, and G20 Bali Summit. The company's latest move at the CEM16 and APEC Energy Summit is a testament to its ongoing efforts to promote sustainable mobility solutions.
In addition to the NEXO FCEV, Hyundai showcased future technologies like waste-to-hydrogen systems and electrolysis hubs, designed to improve hydrogen production efficiency and build local hydrogen economies. Through its HTWO hydrogen brand, Hyundai continues to expand fuel cell infrastructure and mobility solutions, aiming to build a comprehensive hydrogen ecosystem.
Hyundai Motor Group executives, including Ken Ramirez, head of Hyundai's Energy & Hydrogen Business Division, used two high-level dialogues to emphasize hydrogen's role in cutting industrial emissions, improving energy efficiency, and strengthening resilience in the global energy supply. Ramirez urged stronger public-private partnerships to accelerate the adoption of hydrogen in both mobility and industrial applications.
Hyundai's global collaborations in hydrogen technology include memberships and partnerships in the Hydrogen Council, HyLand projects in Germany, Clean Energy Partnership, H2 MOBILITY Deutschland GmbH & Co. KG, and the Fuel Cells and Hydrogen Joint Undertaking. In Switzerland, Hyundai Hydrogen Mobility is a partnership between Hyundai Motor Company and H2 Energy, building a successful hydrogen ecosystem.
The company also highlighted ongoing projects such as hydrogen-powered car transporters at Pyeongtaek Port and logistics initiatives under its HTWO hydrogen brand. Through NorCAL ZERO in California, Hyundai is collaborating on global projects to further advance hydrogen technology and infrastructure.
The article was first published on FAST LANE ONLY. While not directly related to the main topic, it is worth noting that Hyundai also unveiled the fastest farm truck ever built during the event. This innovation further demonstrates Hyundai's commitment to pushing the boundaries of technology and sustainability.
