IARI Conducts a 5-day Workshop on Cultivating Mushrooms for Sustainable Business in Agriculture
The five-day national training program on "Mushroom Cultivation for Sustainable Agribusiness" concluded on August 29, 2025, at the ZTM & BPD Unit Conference Hall. Dr. C. Viswanathan, Joint Director (Research) of the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Indian Agricultural Research Institute (ICAR-IARI), served as the Chief Guest at the valedictory session.
Dr. Viswanathan congratulated the trainees and urged them to continue engaging with IARI's training and innovation platforms for their future growth. He distributed certificates of participation to all trainees.
The training program, which ran from August 25 to 29, 2025, equipped participants to enter the mushroom sector with confidence. Key scientists, including Dr. M.S. Saharan, Dr. Deeba Kamil, Dr. Amrita Das, and Dr. Akriti Sharma, contributed to the program.
The training covered a wide range of topics, including Introduction to Mushroom Production, Cultivation of various mushrooms like Agaricus bitorquis, Shiitake, Paddy Straw, Cordyceps, Oyster, White Button and Milky Mushrooms, Therapeutic and Nutritional Value of Mushrooms, Postharvest Processing, Agricultural Waste Recycling, Enterprise Development, Schemes and Funding Access, Cost-Benefit Analysis, and Startup Opportunities in the Mushroom Sector.
On August 28, participants visited a progressive mushroom farm in Sonipat, Haryana, for hands-on exposure to real-world cultivation and processing. The trainees appreciated the blend of scientific knowledge, entrepreneurship insights, and field-level exposure provided by the training program.
Dr. Ch. Srinivasa Rao, Director of ICAR-IARI, inaugurated the training program on August 25, 2025. The search results do not provide specific information about the speaker at the opening day of the training event.
