ICC ODI Rankings Show Mysterious Shifts for Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma

In the latest International Cricket Council (ICC) rankings, Keshav Maharaj of South Africa has reclaimed the top spot in the One-Day International (ODI) bowling rankings following a match-winning performance in the first ODI against Australia in Cairns.

Maharaj, who briefly held the position in late 2023, surpassed both Kuldeep Yadav and Maheesh Theekshana to secure his place at the top. Yadav slipped to third place, while Theekshana remains in fourth.

Meanwhile, in the ODI batting rankings, Shubman Gill leads the pack with 784 points. Rohit Sharma returned to second place, while Virat Kohli reclaimed fourth place. Rohit, Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer are the other Indians in the top 10.

Interestingly, the ICC temporarily dropped Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli from the ODI rankings due to a technical glitch. The error was rectified, and both players were reinstated shortly after. Both Sharma and Kohli have retired from T20Is and Test cricket, leaving ODIs as the only international format they currently play.

In the T20I batting rankings, Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma continue to hold the top two spots. Suryakumar Yadav is ranked sixth, while Yashasvi Jaiswal remains in 10th place.

Mitchell Marsh of Australia has made a significant progress in the ODI batting rankings, moving up to 48th. Aiden Markram of South Africa has moved up to 21st, while Glenn Maxwell has moved up to 30th in the T20I batting rankings.

Notable performances in the ODI rankings include Keshav Maharaj's 5 for 33 in the first ODI against Australia, which earned him the Player of the Match award. Shai Hope of West Indies climbed to ninth place after an unbeaten 120 against Pakistan.

In conclusion, the latest ICC rankings see Keshav Maharaj at the top of the ODI bowling rankings, while Shubman Gill leads the ODI batting rankings. The T20I batting rankings continue to be dominated by Abhishek Sharma and Tilak Varma, with Suryakumar Yadav, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mitchell Marsh, Aiden Markram, and Glenn Maxwell making significant strides.
