Immersion Celebrations of Ganesh Chaturthi: Examining Magnificent Processions Nationwide in India
The 10-day celebrations for Ganesh Chaturthi, a significant Hindu festival, came to a vibrant close on Saturday. The festivities culminated in visarjan processions taking place across the country, marking the final farewell to Lord Ganesha.
In Mumbai, the iconic Lalbaugcha Raja pandal was a bustling hub of activity. Bollywood celebrities such as Varun Dhawan, Sidharth Malhotra, Janhvi Kapoor, Shilpa Shetty, Anil Kapoor, Malaika Arora, and Anupam Kher, among others, sought blessings from the revered idol. Mukesh Ambani, Chairman and Managing Director of Reliance Industries, also visited the pandal with his family.
Large crowds gathered to witness the grand celebrations at Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Chowk. The final journey of Lord Ganesha from the Lalbaugcha Raja pandal was a grand spectacle, with the idol being showered with water and sindoor (vermillion), creating a visual spectacle.
In other cities, the spirit of the festival was equally fervent. In Pune, the Shree Kasba Ganpati (Gram Devta) 'Manacha Pahila Ganpati' began its immersion procession, while in Telangana, the Balapur Ganesh started its immersion procession with traditional bhajans.
The Khairatabad Maha Ganapati pandal in Hyderabad, known as the epitome of Ganesh celebrations in the country, saw the immersion of the 69-feet Lord Ganesh idol, marking a successful completion of the 71st year of festivities.
Meanwhile, in Nagpur, preparations were made for a massive vehicle as many climbed on in the front before bringing the Nagpur Cha Raja idol out from the pandal. The procession for the immersion of Nagpur Cha Raja began in the afternoon, with devotees gathered in large numbers to send Bappa home.
Prior to the immersion, a mangal aarti was performed at the Nagpur Cha Raja pandal, where devotees basked in the spiritual energy. Across cities like Mumbai, Pune, Nagpur, and Hyderabad, devotees participated in processions to bid farewell to Lord Ganesha.
The festivities began on August 27, and throughout the 10-day period, cultural programs were arranged at Lokmanya Bal Gangadhar Tilak Chowk in Mumbai. The final day of the festival, Anant Chaturdashi, marks 'Ganesh Visarjan', the immersion of the idols in water bodies, symbolising the return of Lord Ganesha to his abode in the ocean.
The Ganesh Chaturthi festival is a testament to the rich cultural heritage and devotion of the Indian people. This year's celebrations, despite the challenges posed by the pandemic, were a reminder of the unwavering spirit of unity and celebration that defines our nation.
