The Sharper Image is set to release its latest innovation, the Literati e-Reader, before its official launch. This entry-level e-Reader promises to be a great addition to any bookworm's collection.

The Literati boasts a full-colour 7-inch screen with a resolution of 480x800, making it easy on the eyes for a comfortable reading experience. The device is powered by Kobo, ensuring smooth performance as an e-Reader.

One of the Literati's standout features is its expandable memory. With around 250 MB of internal memory, the storage can be expanded up to 8 GB via a SD Card. This ample space allows for the download of up to 2 million titles from Kobo's official bookstore, which comes with 150 free open source eBooks in epub format.

The Literati also offers a user-friendly interface with capacitive touch screen page turning buttons on both the right hand and left hand side. For those who prefer a more traditional approach, the device features a full QWERTY keyboard, a full line of numbers at the top, and symbol buttons for slashes, stars, and the @ symbol.

The Literati can be compared favourably with other colored e-Readers in terms of value for money. It can be purchased from retailers such as new Bed Bath & Beyond, Best Buy, JC Penney, Kohl's, Macy's, and others.

While the device functions well as an e-Reader, it does have some limitations. During testing, the WI-FI aspect of the device did not work, but Sharper Image has promised an October firmware update to fix this issue. The Literati does not have audio capabilities, no speakers or headphone jack, and there is no way to install apps on the device.

Despite these drawbacks, the Literati offers unique features such as magazines and cookbooks that take advantage of its full colour aspect, which will be available in October. In November or December, reading enhancements such as Night Reading Mode, Custom Bookshelves, and "Dog Ears" will be rolled out.
