Ford's Mustang Mach-E Outshines Traditional Mustang in Sales

Ford has announced its sales data for August 2025, and it appears that the all-electric Mustang Mach-E is making waves in the automotive market.

The Mustang Mach-E, an electric crossover vehicle produced by Ford, sold 7,226 units last month, a 35.3% increase from the same period in 2024. This figure is significantly higher than the traditional Mustang's sales in 2025, with only 3,235 units sold, a 2.2% increase from August 2024. In fact, the Mustang Mach-E outpaced the regular Mustang in year-to-date sales, with the electric vehicle selling more units than its gasoline counterpart.

Ford's electrified lineup sales also saw a boost, increasing nearly 24 percent year-over-year. The company sold 10,671 electric vehicles in August 2025, a 19.3% increase from last year. Hybrid sales also surged, with 18,773 sold in August 2025 and more than 155,000 moved year-to-date, representing a nearly 24% increase compared to 2024.

The F-Series, Ford's popular pickup truck, also saw success last month. The F-150 Lightning sold 3,217 units, a 21.2% increase from the same month last year. However, year-to-date, the F-150 Lightning sales are down 9.7%. The F-Series outpaced the next best-seller, the Explorer SUV with 20,617 sold.

Despite the success of the Mustang Mach-E, it is not expected to outsell Tesla's Model Y. The exact sales figures for individual models were not provided in the available data, but Ford experienced a sales increase benefiting from last-minute demand before the end of EV subsidies, contributing to overall U.S. auto sales growth of 2.3% compared to August 2024.

The Mustang Mach-E's placement under the Mustang badge has also stirred debate. The move was made to leverage the brand's popularity, but some fans of the traditional Mustang have expressed disappointment.

In August 2025, Ford did not explicitly detail the models with the highest sales in the United States. However, the company's sales increase played a part in the overall growth of U.S. auto sales.

Year-to-date, the Mustang Mach-E has sold 34,319 units, a 6.7% increase from the same period in 2024. Meanwhile, the regular Mustang's year-to-date sales are 31,015, representing an 8.3% decline from the same period in 2024.

As the automotive industry continues to evolve, it will be interesting to see how Ford's electrified lineup, led by the Mustang Mach-E, performs in the coming months and years.
