Inauguration of the freshly constructed Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I

The new Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I was officially opened on July 21, 2025, in a grand ceremony attended by various dignitaries and representatives from the city council, administration, planning offices, construction companies, city sports association, and nearby schools.

The event was hosted by Adi, the popular presenter from the TV show "Mach's mit, mach's nach, mach's besser". The opening ceremony was also graced by Mayor Dr. Stefan Fassbinder, Senator Achim Lerm, and Minister Christian Pegel, who emphasized the significance of the project in the development of the education and sports infrastructure in Greifswald.

The new sports facility, which cost approximately 10 million euros to build, is a crucial building block in this development. The construction costs were funded with 3 million euros from urban development funding and around 779,000 euros from the MV-Schutzfonds for technical facilities.

The hall offers optimal conditions for school and club sports, with its three equally-sized fields, a gymnastics room, and special markings for roller sports. Outdoor facilities include a shot put area and a mountain bike course.

The new Sports Hall 2 is located next to the Integrated Comprehensive School "Erwin Fischer", making it a lively meeting point in the neighborhood and strengthening the sense of community in Schönwalde I. The hall also serves as a vital venue to meet the pleasantly high demand for hall times in the city of Greifswald.

In terms of design, the architect and construction company responsible for the new Sportszentrum 2 in Schönwalde I remain undisclosed in the search results. However, the new sports facility continues the path of creating modern, versatile sports facilities that connect health, education, and social interaction in a forward-looking urban development.

The opening of the new Sports Hall 2 in Schönwalde I marks another milestone in the city's commitment to providing top-notch sports facilities for its residents and fostering a vibrant and active community.
