"Incident at a sports machine's supposed emergency landing leaves two persons severely hurt"

On August 11th, around 12:20 PM, a single-engine sports aircraft crashed into a cornfield in Lohmar-Algert, Rhein-Sieg district. The Circles Police Authority Rhein-Sieg District has confirmed the incident and is currently investigating the cause.

The plane, a Cessna, took off from the Freiburg area, but the destination of the flight is currently unknown. Initial reports suggest technical problems with the aircraft may have forced an emergency landing, with the 69-year-old pilot reporting issues shortly before the crash.

Fortunately, the occupants, a 69-year-old and 70-year-old couple from Gladbeck, had already managed to free themselves from the aircraft before emergency services and police arrived at the scene. Both occupants were heavily injured but not in life-threatening condition. They were taken to nearby hospitals by helicopter for further treatment.

The crash site is currently cordoned off, and the public is asked to avoid the area to ensure the safety of the investigation and the privacy of the affected parties. The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation has been called in to investigate the exact cause of the accident.

The Circles Police Authority Rhein-Sieg District Press Office can be contacted at 02241/541-2222 or via email at [email protected] for further updates on the investigation. The crash site remains secured and accessible only to authorized personnel.
