Increase in Fiber Production in Vineyards Due to Land Changes

In a significant move towards digital advancement, Minister Thomas Strobl has awarded grants for the expansion of fiber optic networks in the Karlsruhe district, triggering investments of over twelve million euros. This initiative is part of the Glasfaserpakt Baden-Württemberg, a binding agreement for broadband expansion with clear priorities.

The district, known for its consistent reliance on a combination of state and federal funding and expansion by private network operators since 2014, is set to become a pioneer in broadband expansion. By completing all ongoing funding and expansion projects, the region aims to achieve comprehensive fiber optic coverage, paving the way for education without loading bars, medical advice via video in minutes instead of kilometers, global markets from the home office, and more security through modern communication technologies.

The city of Waghaeusel will be one of the beneficiaries, receiving around 4.3 million euros for the new funding project. This investment will create 1,344 connections, including a school, 173 commercial enterprises, and 30 public buildings. Meanwhile, in Weingarten (Baden), 181 new connections will be established, with a school, 32 commercial enterprises, and six public buildings set to benefit.

Minister Strobl has emphasized the progress in broadband expansion in Baden-Württemberg and underscored the importance of this effort for the digital, innovative future. He has opted for cooperation instead of overlap in broadband expansion, aiming to bring Baden-Württemberg to the gigabit goal through teamwork.

Notably, Deutsche Glasfaser is supplementing the funded expansion with a large-scale, private-sector expansion in Waghaeusel. Minister Strobl, District Administrator Dr. Christoph Schnaudigel, and Mayor Thomas Deuschle have officially put a section of the municipal fiber optic network into operation in Waghaeusel.

However, no new information about the expected number of fiber optic connections by 2028, future cities or municipalities in the Karlsruhe district planned for fiber-optic network expansion, ongoing projects, or private-sector expansions beyond Waghaeusel and Weingarten was provided.

This news underscores the commitment of the Baden-Württemberg government to digital infrastructure investment and the potential for improved digital services and connectivity in the region.
