Incredible win by Alzahir, securing his sixth handicap victory of the season - speculation grows about another major prize on the horizon for his team.

In the heart of Stoke-on-Trent, UK, trainer Jennie Candlish's stable continues to make waves in the racing world. Her 5-year-old horse, Alzahir, recently added another feather to its cap with a triumphant win in a 6f handicap.

Alzahir, who has been consistently impressive all season, defied odds of 9st 12lb and a BHA mark of 99 to secure the victory under the guidance of jockey George Wood. This remarkable achievement marks Alzahir as the 33rd winner of 2025 for Candlish, a testament to the horse's talent and the trainer's skill.

The victory comes on the heels of Alzahir's impressive performance in the Great St Wilfrid last time. Prior to this, Alzahir had won off a BHA mark of 84 at the beginning of the season, surpassing its best previous tally of just 14 winners.

Meanwhile, the racing scene has been marred by a tragic incident at York, where jockeys Jim Crowley and Trevor Whelan suffered suspected broken legs in a mid-race accident. Our thoughts are with them for a speedy recovery.

Elsewhere, 16-year-old rider Freddie Robson continues to make a name for himself. Robson, who works for Paul Robson and is set to receive his amateur licence this year, scored on She's A Corker. Robson is not the only young talent to watch, as Sean and James Bowen, who won pony races at York as teenagers, and Billy Loughnane, a recent pony race participant, are also names to note.

Interestingly, Freddie Robson shares a connection with the Olympic world, as he is the grandson of Olympic silver medal-winning eventer Ian Stark.

As the racing season progresses, Alzahir could be set for a crack at the prestigious Ladbrokes Ayr Gold Cup. Currently, the horse is a 20-1 chance with the sponsors. Whether Alzahir will take the Gold Cup remains to be seen, but one thing is certain - the horse and its trainer are ones to watch in the world of horse racing.
