India's star wicket-keeper batsman Rishabh Pant will not play in the final England-India Test, with a replacement yet to be announced
India is set to face a significant change in their lineup for the fifth Test match at The Oval, scheduled to begin on July 31, as Rishabh Pant's injury has effectively ruled him out of the game. Pant sustained a fractured foot on the first day of the Test match at Old Trafford and had to retire hurt.
Pant made a valiant 37 in 48 balls, including two fours and a six, before his retirement. The medical team has advised him to rest for six weeks. This means that both Indian innings in the Oval Test will close nine wickets down if Pant does not bat.
With Pant out, Dhruv Jurel is likely to replace him as wicket-keeper for India in the ongoing Test match at Old Trafford. Jurel previously filled in for Pant during the Lord's Test match. It is worth noting that the IPL Impact Player rule, which allows full substitutes, is not applicable in this Test match.
The ICC Playing Conditions do not currently have a provision for batting substitutes in Test matches, but they do allow full substitutes for concussed cricketers. However, the substitute can only act as a wicket-keeper with the consent of the umpires and cannot bowl or act as captain.
Ben Stokes won the toss and elected to field at Manchester, and India went to stumps at 264-4 with Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur on 19 runs each.
Meanwhile, Ishan Kishan will be added to the squad for the Oval Test. Kishan has been in fine form in this summer's County Championship, making 87 and 77 in his two innings for Nottinghamshire. However, there is no clear information about who will replace Pant if he cannot continue playing in the ongoing test match.
