German Police Arrest Suspected Pickpocket on ICE Train
A 22-year-old pickpocket was arrested by German police at St. Georg main station on Tuesday afternoon, following a theft that occurred on an ICE train traveling from Hannover to Hamburg.
The theft took place around 1 pm, with the victim being an elderly woman, aged 76. The train attendant reported the incident to the police, and after a thorough investigation, the officers managed to identify the suspect.
The pickpocket, known by the Federal Police for similar thefts, was found on the ICE train. He allegedly used an unlawfully obtained key to enter a restaurant in St. Johann in Tirol and steal a four-digit cash sum. He was stopped at Salzburg airport before leaving the country, and much of the stolen money was recovered.
The suspect locked himself in the onboard toilet after the theft. The train attendant, in a timely action, opened the toilet for the officers, who apprehended the pickpocket. The handbag, previously stolen from the elderly woman, was also recovered.
The pickpocket was accused of stealing a handbag from the elderly woman on the ICE train. His age was confirmed to be 22 years old. The location of the arrest was St. Georg main station, following the report by the train attendant.
The 22-year-old, a Turkish national, is now in custody, awaiting further investigation and potential charges. This arrest serves as a reminder for travellers to remain vigilant and secure their belongings while using public transportation.
