Individual Convicted to Five-Year Imprisonment for Casino attack and Theft of $38,000 from Victim
Street Thug Gets Nearly Five Years for Beating Elderly Casino Winner
Courts have slapped a nearly five-year prison sentence on one of the three goons who brutally assaulted an elderly casino patron, leaving him bruised and battered outside his home, having stolen his hard-earned $38,000 winnings.
Shawn Eric Lewis Jr., 37, was given a jail term of 58 months in Washington County District Court on Tuesday. He previously admitted guilt to first-degree aggravated robbery back in January. With time served already factored in, Lewis Jr. will begin his sentence promptly. The judge has referred to a potential early release as unlikely.
The victim, a 68-year-old gent, was attacked on the chilly December morning of 2023, as he returned home after a victorious casino session. Lewis Jr.βs fellow accomplices, Deangelo Romaine Jacox and Tristin Tyler Jacox Mann, along with unknown associates, set upon the defenseless man, robbing him of his winnings and inflicting physical harm.
The unfortunate man's identity was not disclosed to the public at his request. Yet, his family - including his girlfriend and her niece - bore the horrifying spectacle of the assault, with Lewis Jr. and his cohorts brandishing weapons to maintain control.
Although Lewis Jr.'s cooperation led to dropped charges against him, the maximum penalty was still meted out for the charges that remained. The leniency in sentencing was attributed to Lewis Jr.'s struggle with addiction to fentanyl, which allegedly forced him to commit the crime to secure funds for more drugs.
However, Judge Siv Mjanger didn't deem addiction a valid excuse for the caustic assault. As she pointed out, "Addiction is an explanation, but it hardly warrants such reprehensible action."
The traumatized victim expressed considerable fear of further attacks or retribution through intermediaries. Consequently, he opted to remain anonymous to avoid potential threats.
But the assault wasn't merely a three-man operation; Lewis Jr., Jacox, and Mann are believed to have worked in tandem with at least two other unknown individuals, bringing the total number of perpetrators to five. The remaining suspects are due to appear in court towards the end of the year.

The prison sentence awarded to Shawn Eric Lewis Jr., one of the three men involved in the assault, is a nearly five-year term for his involvement in the casino-and-gambling related crime and aggravated robbery. Court proceedings revealed that Lewis Jr., Deangelo Romaine Jacox, and Tristin Tyler Jacox Mann, along with at least two other unidentified individuals, committed this crime against a casino winner outside his home.
