In the early hours of Thursday morning, the Hannover Fire Department was called to action in the Vahrenheide district, where they carried out a water rescue operation on the Mittelland Canal.

The emergency situation arose at approximately 7:25 AM, with the first-arriving fire department personnel discovering a person near the northern retaining wall. The discovery was reported by a passerby who noticed an apparently lifeless person floating near the canal bridge on Vahrenwalder Straße.

The operation, which involved the Hannover Fire Department, rescue services, and the DLRG (German Life Saving Association), was initiated with 40 personnel and 15 vehicles on site. Firefighter divers secured the person and used a fire department boat from the "water rescue" specialist group to bring them to shore.

The operation ended at around 08:30, but the incident caused traffic disruptions on Vahrenwalder Straße. The on-site doctor later confirmed the person's death.
