Industrial blaze at manufacturing facility in Beuel leads to extensive firefighting efforts by emergency responders in Bonn

A significant incident unfolded in Bonn today, as the Fire and Rescue Service responded to a fire at a food processing plant in the Beuel district. The incident was reported by news aktuell and involved a fire caused by a burning exhaust system in an in-house roastery on the roof of the building.

The fire started at 11:18 a.m., and due to the heavy smoke produced, neighbors were asked by the local authority to close their windows. Motorised angle grinders were used to forcibly open the exhaust system's pipes to gain access to the interior, and the firefighting efforts were demanding due to high temperatures and humid weather.

Two firefighters had to be treated by the rescue service and taken to the hospital due to circulatory problems. The police and the local authority of the federal city of Bonn provided support to the firefighters and rescue services, while the Johanniter-Unfall-Hilfe provided catering for the emergency services.

The command team, forces from fire stations 1 and 2 of the professional fire brigade, and volunteer fire units from Beuel, Dransdorf, Geislar, Rheindorf, Lannesdorf, and Endenich, with a total of around 80 personnel, were involved in the incident. Vacant fire stations were staffed by volunteer fire units from Buschdorf, Holtorf, Holzlar, Oberkassel, and Kessenich to cover potential parallel incidents.

As of 4:30 PM, firefighters are still on site for follow-up operations. For further inquiries, please contact the Fire and Rescue Service Bonn Press Office: Joerg Schneider / Lennart Gerlach at +49 228 7170 or visit www.bonn.de/feuerwehr. The alarm level was raised again at 12:04 PM to ensure sufficient supply of breathing apparatus at the scene.

We hope for a swift resolution to this incident and a speedy recovery for the affected firefighters. Stay safe, Bonn.
