On May 14, 2025, a fire broke out at a grain processing facility in Rostock's Overseas Port. The incident, which involved a 150m long encapsulated conveyor belt and adjacent building parts, was reported to the Rostock Fire Department at 00:03.
Immediately, several response teams were formed, and firefighting operations were initiated. The incident commander, duty officer BAR Markus Diegeler, successfully managed the situation. At around 01:30, the fire in the first response area was brought under control. However, at around 01:45, "fire under control" was reported in the area where the fire spread further along the conveyor belt.
The fire threatened to spread to the adjacent silo building, but the firefighters managed to contain it. Another fire occurred on the backside of the building, involving further plant parts, but the firefighters quickly extinguished it as well.
No one was injured during the incident, and cleanup operations and a fire watch lasted until around 06:00 in the morning. The Rostock Fire Department set up a fire watch throughout the morning to ensure safety.
