Industrial production in Germany during July 2025 witnesses a surge, particularly in the sector of machine building
In a positive turn of events, Germany's industrial production has shown signs of recovery in July 2025. Compared to June, production increased by 2.2% on a seasonally and calendar-adjusted basis, according to the latest data.
This growth was driven by several key sectors. The production of investment goods saw a 3.0% increase, while consumer goods production rose by 2.1%. The automotive industry, specifically the Volkswagen Group (VW), played a significant role in this positive development. VW passenger cars registered a 83% increase in new electric vehicle sales compared to the previous year, contributing 22,355 electric cars sold in July.
The pharmaceutical industry also had a positive impact, with a 8.4% increase in production. The positive development of production in July 2025 is mainly due to the increase in mechanical engineering, which saw a significant rise of 9.5%.
However, the growth was not universal. Production in energy-intensive industries was 2.6% lower in the three-month comparison from May 2025 to July 2025, compared to the previous three months. This decrease was also reflected in energy production, which declined by 4.5%.
Despite this, overall industrial production in July 2025 was 2.3% higher compared to the same month last year, calendar-adjusted. This improvement was also evident when compared to July 2024, with production increasing by 1.5%, seasonally adjusted.
It's worth noting that the revision in June's production figures is due to correction reports from a company in the automotive industry and data updates. Construction production also saw a modest increase of 0.3% in July compared to June. The production of intermediate goods increased by 0.8% during the same period.
These developments indicate a positive trend in Germany's industrial sector, offering hope for continued growth in the coming months.
