Infamous soccer streaming piracy platform Streameast halted by antipiracy organization according to their statement
In a significant move against digital piracy, the Alliance for Creativity and Entertainment (ACE) has announced the successful shutdown of the world's largest illicit live sports streaming operation, Streameast. The operation, which provided unauthorized access to sport-specific piracy sites for various leagues including the NFL, NBA, MLB, NHL, and soccer, was dismantled in collaboration with Egyptian authorities.
Charles Rivkin, ACE chairman and Motion Picture Association CEO, hailed the shutdown as a "resounding victory" in the fight against digital piracy. Ed McCarthy, chief operating officer of the DAZN streaming group, agreed, stating that the dismantling of Streameast is a "major victory" for everyone who invests in and relies on the live sports ecosystem.
McCarthy also expressed concern over the criminal operation, stating that it was siphoning value from sports at every level and putting fans across the world at risk. The shutdown of Streameast, which had over 1.6 billion visits in the past year, is expected to have a significant impact on the illegal streaming market.
Site traffic to the various Streameast domains originated primarily from the U.S., Canada, Britain, the Philippines, and Germany. Streameast offered unauthorized access to matches across Europe's top soccer leagues, contributing to the growing issue of soccer piracy. Soccer piracy has skyrocketed over the last two decades due to the high prices of pay-per-view and streaming services, and the practice of leagues selling to multiple broadcasters, requiring fans to pay for multiple subscriptions.
All Streameast sites now redirect to the ACE "Watch Legally" page, encouraging users to find legal alternatives for accessing live sports content. McCarthy commended the Egyptian authorities and ACE for their action in dismantling Streameast, and expressed hope that this will send a clear message to other illegal streaming operations that they will not be tolerated.
The shutdown of Streameast is a significant step forward in the fight against digital piracy, and serves as a reminder of the importance of protecting the value of sports and ensuring a safe and secure online environment for fans.
