Infiltration mastermind from Jammu and Kashmir, Fatally engaged in an encounter, faced accusations of coordinating over a hundred illicit cross-border infiltrations.
In a significant development in the ongoing security operations in Jammu and Kashmir, Bagu Khan, a notorious Hizbul Mujahideen commander known as the 'Human GPS' for his role in over 100 infiltration attempts, was shot dead on Saturday.
The incident occurred during an infiltration attempt from the Nowshera Naar area. Along with Bagu Khan, another unidentified Pakistani terrorist was also killed.
Prior to his death, Bagu Khan had been active in Pakistan-occupied-Kashmir since 1995 and was believed to have helped almost every terrorist organisation infiltrate from Gurez and the surrounding sectors. He was considered the biggest link to infiltrators in the Kashmir valley, with detailed knowledge of secret routes.
Bagu Khan's demise was a result of a cordon and search operation launched by security forces along the border belt in 11 localities in Poonch district. The operations were carried out in several key areas after residents alerted security agencies.
In other developments, torrential rains triggered floods across the region, leading to several incidents of landslides. Seven deaths were reported in a landslide in Reasi, and three deaths occurred due to a cloudburst in Ramban.
Security forces, meanwhile, have strengthened their presence in the affected areas. Additional reinforcement was deployed, and security measures were ramped up to ensure the safety of the residents.
Jammu and Kashmir DGP Nalin Prabhat and BSF ADG, Western Command, S S Khandare, reviewed security in their respective areas on Saturday. Both security officials visited the International Border (in Kathua and Jammu districts) ahead of a likely visit by Home Minister Amit Shah.
Despite these developments, there has been no mention of any discussions between security officials or any plans to retaliate. The Union Minister is likely to take stock of the situation after the floods.
Bagu Khan's death is a significant blow to the terrorist organisations operating in the region. His expertise as an excellent navigator and his extensive knowledge of the difficult geographical conditions of the area made him a valuable asset to the terrorists. His elimination will undoubtedly weaken their capabilities and disrupt their plans.
