In a bid to address concerns and ensure order and security, the municipal authority of Bottrop conducted a targeted inspection on the city's gastronomic mile on August 21st. The inspections, which took place from 10 pm to midnight, were part of an effort to address numerous complaints about the archway.
The aim of the inspection was twofold: to address complaints and strengthen security, as well as to enforce legal regulations. Forces from the municipal public order service and the trade department were involved in the operation. Eight officers, four in plain clothes and four in uniform, were deployed for the inspection.
The background for the inspection was a brutal stabbing attack the previous evening. The inspections were conducted to prevent the impression of lawless spaces and send a signal for order and security.
During the inspections, several violations were detected. Four instances of public urination were recorded, each resulting in a fine of 100 euros. In many cases, littering, including discarding cigarettes and waste, resulted in seven warnings of 50 euros each. Immediate force was used in some situations as individuals attempted to flee.
In one case, the police were called in because individuals refused to provide their personal details. Administrative offence and criminal proceedings have been initiated in all cases.
The municipal authority takes complaints seriously and acts accordingly. Michael Althammer, head of the municipal authority, stated that the aim is for the people of Bottrop to not only be objectively safe, but also to feel safe. Refusal to provide personal details to the authorities can be punished with a fine of up to 1,000 euros. The name of the person who heads the municipal administration that took the measure to address the complaints about the bow tip is not provided.
