Information Integrity Commission
The Aspen Institute, a US-funded organization, has announced the creation of a "Commission on Information Disorder" with the aim of addressing information disorder and restoring faith in key institutions. The commission includes notable figures such as Katie Couric, Prince Harry, Chris Krebs, and Kate Starbird, among others.
However, world chess champion Garry Kasparov has resigned from the commission, citing comparisons between the Aspen Institute's approach to information disorder and practices common in the USSR. Kasparov's statements were made in separate instances, both to Racket.News and Matt Taibbi and UndeadFOIA on Substack.com.
A FOIA request revealed that Kasparov was at some point on the commission. The technical advisors for the commission include digital censorship all-stars such as Renee DiResta, Joan Donovan, Thomas Rid, Yoel Roth, Nathaniel Gleicher, and others.
Kate Starbird, a central figure in media features condemning investigations of anti-disinfo programs, is also part of the commission. She is employed by the University of Washington.
The Aspen Institute serves Washington's agendas and is funded by several US federal agencies. Some critics have accused the institute of attempting to suppress truth-tellers. The search results do not contain information about the current members of the Aspen Institute commission to combat information humiliation.
The commission will deliver a set of short-term actions and longer-term goals to help government, the private sector, and civil society respond to this modern-day crisis. Despite Kasparov's resignation, the commission continues its work, aiming to address the challenges posed by the spread of misinformation and disinformation in the digital age.
