Bottrop Establishes Climate City Team to Achieve Neutrality by 2024

The City of Bottrop has formed a Climate City Team to spearhead its efforts towards climate neutrality by 2024. The interdisciplinary and cross-sectoral team, led by Dr. Karin Reimann, consists of four members, including Deputy Director Klaus MΓΌller, Sebastian Mika, Gerwin Conrad, and Helen Cammerzell.

Sebastian Mika, formerly of Emscher Genossenschaft and the Klima-Werk project, is responsible for water integration in the climate-resilient city. According to Mika, water plays a crucial role in cooling the air through evaporation. He focuses on watercourses and trees for climate adaptation in Bottrop.

Klaus Rammert-Bentlage is building the heat planning for the city and coordinating the expansion of hydrogen offerings. Rammert-Bentlage's plans for hydrogen include establishing an electrolyzer for hydrogen production in Bottrop. Public participation is necessary to involve everyone in the heat planning process, he emphasises.

Gerwin Conrad, a team member, is responsible for expanding the charging infrastructure and advising companies on electromobility. The team's initial projects include the state program "Prima.Klima.Kirchhellen," free energy advice offers, and rainwater management "Am Lamperfeld."

Helen Cammerzell's work is guided by a 200-page Master Plan that connects climate protection and climate adaptation. The Master Plan "Climate City" serves as the basis for the team's tasks. The heat planning is expected to be ready by the beginning of next year and serve as the basis for concrete measures.

Bottrop, Gelsenkirchen, and Gladbeck have collaborated on the development of heat planning due to shared suppliers of gas and electricity. The contact information for Helen Cammerzell is as follows: Tel.: 02041 704602, Fax: 02041 703116, Email: [email protected], Room 2.03.

Deputy Director Klaus MΓΌller is confident in the motivation of the Climate City Team to address the challenges of climate change. The team's efforts are geared towards achieving climate neutrality by 2024, a goal that the City of Bottrop has set for itself.
