In the heart of Bergisch Gladbach, a construction site on Bensberger Straße was the scene of an unusual incident on the afternoon of March 20, 2025. Unknown perpetrators entered the site and made off with several copper pipes, causing substantial water damage in the process.

The site manager, who had last entered the premises on March 13th, 2025, at around 19:00, did not notice anything amiss until the police arrived. Upon their arrival, the police found the building's basement flooded to a depth of approximately 36 cm. Initially, it was suspected that the perpetrators had damaged the main water pipe, causing the basement to flood. However, after the fire brigade pumped out the basement, no damage to the main water pipe was found.

Instead, it was discovered that several copper pipes that had already been installed on the site had been stolen. The exact value of the stolen copper pipes is still undetermined. The incident caused water damage of several thousand euros.

The Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis Police have taken notice of the incident and have filed a criminal complaint. Witnesses are being sought to provide further information about the incident. No identity of the perpetrators has been provided in the report.

For further inquiries, members of the public are encouraged to contact the Rheinisch-Bergischer Kreis Police Press Office at 02202 205 120 or [email protected]. Alternatively, for non-press related inquiries, the Rhein-Berg police can be reached under the number 02202 205-0.

The investigation into the theft and water damage is ongoing, and updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
