Informed disclosure: Here are the key details:
In the heart of Germany, the city of Bottrop has taken a significant step towards a greener future. The city administration, under the guidance of Mayor Helen Cammerzell, has established a dedicated team known as "Climate City." This team, operating within the department of Technical Deputy Klaus MΓΌller, has been tasked with coordinating measures towards climate neutrality by 2024.
At the helm of the "Climate City" team is Sebastian Mika, who has been assigned to the city with a half-time position. His thematic area revolves around the integration of water in the city's climate-resilient development. Mika emphasises the importance of water as a temperature buffer, cooling the air through evaporation.
Meanwhile, Sebastian Mika's colleague, Gerwin Conrad, is focusing on expanding the charging infrastructure and advising companies on electromobility.
The "Climate City" team's efforts are not confined within the city limits. Bottrop has joined forces with neighbouring cities Gelsenkirchen and Gladbeck for the development of heat planning, given their common suppliers for gas and electricity. Klaus Rammert-Bentlage, who is responsible for building the heat planning for the city, is also coordinating the expansion of hydrogen offerings.
One of Rammert-Bentlage's plans includes establishing an electrolyzer for hydrogen production in Bottrop. However, public participation is crucial for the heat planning, according to Rammert-Bentlage.
Deputy Director Klaus MΓΌller expresses confidence in the motivation of the "Climate City" team. He expects the team to drive the topic forward in an interdisciplinary and cross-departmental manner.
The heat planning plan is expected to be ready by the beginning of next year and serve as the basis for concrete measures. The employee responsible for the expansion of water applications related to climate preservation in the "Climate City" team in Bottrop remains to be publicly specified.
However, it is clear that the city of Bottrop is committed to a greener future, with climate neutrality as its overarching goal in all areas of the city administration and beyond.
