Bottrop, a city in North Rhine-Westphalia, is participating in the fourth round of the OKOPROFIT project, an ecological project for integrated environmental technology. This project, which focuses on helping businesses achieve economic viability, sustainability, and a secure future, is a joint effort by four cities: Bottrop, Gelsenkirchen, Gladbeck, and Herne.

The project, launched on February 28 in Gelsenkirchen, is funded by the Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Transport of the state of NRW and targets small and medium-sized enterprises. Rainer Jesenek, responsible for OKOPROFIT in the Environmental and Green Department in Bottrop, expressed his pleasure at having a diverse mix of Bottrop companies for the project this year.

Participating companies from Bottrop in the current round include the Heinrich-Heine-Gymnasium, Willy-Brandt-Gesamtschule schools, Siebe Building Cleaning, BMW Felix GmbH, and Bernhard Gertz GmbH construction company. The project offers these businesses the opportunity to critically examine their own structures and workflows and identify processes that can be optimized.

The project's focus areas are energy, water, waste, material flow analyzes, and hazardous substances. Klaus MΓΌller, Technical Deputy, is pleased that the project is starting and believes participants will contribute to the implementation of global sustainability goals and climate protection goals.

The current round of OKOPROFIT will have 13 participants who will develop their own measures within eight network meetings. The results of previous OKOPROFIT projects demonstrate that economy and ecology can be harmoniously combined for sustainability. In the last project round, a total of 14 companies from Bottrop and neighboring cities participated, resulting in savings of over 250,000 euros, 850,000 kilowatt-hours of energy, and 1,169 tons of CO2.

For further information, contact Rainer Jesenek from the Department of Environment and Green, or Frank Paluch from the Economic Development and Location Management Agency. Additional information can be found on the OKOPROFIT Network NRW, a brochure for OKOPROFIT Bottrop - Gelsenkirchen - Gladbeck - Herne, and the website for B.A.U.M. Consult, the company supporting the OKOPROFIT project.

After successfully implementing OKOPROFIT three times in Bottrop, the city is committed to continuing this project under the sponsorship of the four cities. The example of OKOPROFIT businesses should set a precedent for more businesses to engage in the project, fostering a more sustainable and environmentally friendly business environment. Interested businesses can contact Bottrop to potentially join the OKOPROFIT project next year.
